Upgrade to a new digital antenna

Mr. Antenna was asked to attend a nine-story building in South Yarra today where a roof restoration has been carried out. However, it was quite evident that the top half of the antenna system needed an upgrade to a new digital antenna as it was quite old and damaged.

Stuart, our friendly resident antenna hero in South Yarra, inspected the site and his immediate solution was to relocate the antenna to the brick wall on top of the building that serviced the elevator. That way he could facilitate a six-meter pole without using guy wire hardware.

He installed three evenly-spaced, specifically designed clamps in a vertical fashion to hold the heavy-duty, thick quake galvanized pole. This pole will be the foundation of where the two antennas will live for many years. It was absolutely crucial that none of the components failed, as it would be a disaster, and it also is a major risk to the community should strong winds arise.

Debris falling from a high rise of any shape or form can be fatal. So he had to get this right—we simply couldn’t sleep at night if anything happened. Now that the foundation was in it was time for the antenna selection. We had the luxury of both VHF and UHF so we used both and he went with the “ducks guts” premium lifetime warranty VHF antenna and the same in the UHF antenna both with 4G rejection filters.

Funny enough the como UHF transmitter was only 200 meters away making life easy. He combined both antennas into a specific high-quality Matchmaster amplifier. This can separate both VHF and UHF signals and combine them into one cable. He routed the lead-in cable into the top communications cabinet and installed the power supply. The technician then connected the new part of the system to the existing distribution amplifier, which made the antenna system live and usable throughout the whole building.
