Upgrading An Antenna Out In Cold Kilmore

Upgrading an antenna is a common task for us at Mr Antenna but at times we still face some issues. It’s very cold working in Kilmore this time of the year but that was only one of the challenges we faced when working on this beautiful old homestead.

Our customer was experiencing an unsteady and intermittent TV signal from Mount Dandenong. They were using a budget multi-band log periodic antenna. These aren’t ideal; it’s very important that an antenna selection is specific when in rural areas. This occurs due to the fact that the signals have to be acquired from long distances.

There were also strong signs that birds frequented the antenna due to bent elements and chewed-out cabling. Chewed-out cabling also causes waterlogging in the cable which travels to the splitter corroding the cable and the splitter over time.

Fortunately, there is a transmitter close by on Mount Hickey in Broadford. We installed one of our quality UHF Matchmaster antennas and pointed it at the Mount Hickey transmitter. Combined with a Matchmaster amplifier, we were able to obtain a high-strength, high-quality signal to combat signal drop.

Once we implemented the foundations for a reliable TV, we replaced the old cabling with RG quad shield cabling with a new 3-way Matchmaster splitter. Testing of the system at all outlets confirmed quality readings, we then installed some bird spikes on the antenna to deter any unwanteds from doing any damage to the antenna.
